in this program?
Based on your energy provider, you
can save a significant amount of money on your
utility and fuel consumption costs.

No, the grant
is in place to offset these costs.
Is your work
guaranteed?
Yes, it's inspected by Department of
Housing and Community Renewal State Monitor.
How can
I benefit as a landlord?
You can enjoy reduced
energy costs, improvements to the building and
better relationships with your tenants.
Are there
any tax benefits?
Yes! Landlords who participate
in the program can apply for the J51 tax
abatement program.
Do I have to own a 1-4 family
home or a Multi-unit building? Owners/property
managers of either type of property can request an
application.
What if I cannot afford my portion of
the upgrades?
We can refer you to non-profit
agencies who offer loan programs for as little as
1%-8% if you qualify.
What if I am a senior citizen
who owns my own home?
The service is
free of charge provide you
reside on the property and meet the other
criteria.

Why should I participate in this program?
Your landlord cannot raise your rent for these
improvements, because we provide to them with a
federal grant.
Will SPRC now be responsible for all repairs to
the property?
No, we will provide energy conservation upgrades
only. Is SPRC the new landlord? No, we assist your
current landlord to make conservation upgrades only.
What is the purpose of income documentation?
To ensure that residents would not otherwise be able
to afford an increase in rent should the landlord
make the improvements on his/her own.
Who sees this information?
Applicant information is private and confidential,
Only the intake specialists for the Weatherization
Assistance Program will have access to the
information.
How long before I see improvements to my
apartment?
We can not act until tenant income eligibility is
verified and your landlord approves upgrade
assessments.
*Note: households who receive public
assistance, SSI, HEAP or food stamps are
automatically eligible

Eligibility |
Tenants and homeowners
residing in Brooklyn who meet the income
guidelines qualify for a Weatherization Grant.
The grant can assist to pay from 30 to 60%, and
in some cases up to 100%, of the cost towards
energy conservation upgrades

Benefits |
Upgrades are based on
necessity and can include: Replacement and or
repairs of heating systems, roof and wall
insulation, low flow shower heads, replacement
or repair of primary windows and/or doors,
weather-stripping and caulking around doors and
windows.
