In 1969 a consortium of business leaders, religious and social groups met to discuss the construction of Lutheran Medical Center and a food processing plant. These leaders founded the Sunset Park Redevelopment Committee, Inc. and saw the construction through.
1978 brought about the renovation of twenty homes with funding through the Small Homes Improvement Program and was named one of the ten original New York City Neighborhood Strategy Areas/NSA.
In 1979, SPRC began renovating clusters of multiple family dwellings through the federally funded program Project Based Section 8 and was responsible for the renewal of urban housing stock, of what would have possibly ended up as rubble filled lots.
In 1982, SPRC became the managing agent at completion of construction of over 2000 units of Section 8 Family housing throughout Sunset Park.
As we entered the millennium and reflected on our impact; SPRC has contributed toward the stimulation of economic growth, diverse housing stock and residential accessibility of Sunset Park through the development of affordable housing.
In 2004, we managed 36 unit multi family residence within Sunset Park and assisted property owners to incorporate energy conservation upgrades to their properties improving the quality and energy efficiency of Southwest Brooklyn’s housing stock.
In the years to come, we will continue to maintain a foothold in the Sunset Park Community, while expanding our services to meet its’ growing needs and those of the communities surrounding it.
