How does the Weatherization Assistance Program help you?

You can save money on your energy bill and 50% or more savings on your contribution for energy saving measures, and new comfort for tenants. If your building qualifies, WAP provides funds for landlords to modify their properties to optimize energy conservation measures via SPRC.

How does it work?

Services may include lighting and refrigerator upgrades, pipe, roof and wall insulation, new inspections of carbon monoxide detectors, new shower heads, faucet aerators, boiler and hot water heaters, sealing air bypasses, windows and door repair or replacement.

Categorical Eligibility

A household is automatically eligible for WAP assistance if they are receiving any one of the following: 

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI Living Alone)

  • Public Assistance

  • HEAP - Regular Benefits, Award Letter

Income Eligibility

When an applicant is NOT categorically eligible, eligibility for WAP assistance must be determined on the basis of household income. The income is defined as total gross income from all working family members 18 and over such as the following:

  • Social Security, Social Security Disability, Veterans Survivors Benefit

  • Current Employment

  • Self-Employment

  • Unemployment

Required Documents

  • Fuel Report (Gas) / Invoices (Oil) from two years to present

  • Electricity Report of one year with monthly kWh

  • Rent Roll (Tenant's name, phone number, rent amount per apartment)

  • Building Assessment Qualification (BAQ) Fees per NYS HCR PPM subsection 4.05. This covers the cost of the energy audit, which takes place after the program eligilibilty has been established. The initial investment is $500 per units. If applicable, please include a check or money order payable to SPRC INC., Weatherization Assistance Program
