In 1969, a group of business, religious, and community leaders met to discuss the construction of Lutheran Medical Center and a food processing plant founding the Sunset Park Redevelopment Committee, Inc. (SPRC). In 1978, we renovated 20 homes through the Small Homes Improvement Program. SPRC became the managing agent for more than 2,000 newly constructed Section 8 family housing units throughout Sunset Park by the mid 80s. We also partnered with New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) to provide energy efficiency services for income-eligible households. In the early 2000s, we delivered housing upgrades through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). During the Covid-19 pandemic, we implemented programs under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to strengthen housing resilience and energy efficiency.
